Digimagaz.com – Sergino Dest has made it clear that he does not want to leave Barcelona this summer. He is determined to fight for his place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

Dest has struggled to break into the first team since joining Barcelona in 2020. The 22-year-old player was loaned out to AC Milan last season.

Unfortunately, Dest failed to make a significant impact at San Siro. As a result, the American player did not have a guarantee of a regular right-back position.

Dest only played 14 games in all competitions with Milan. Consequently, he was returned to Barcelona this summer.

Dest’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain. However, he will try to convince Xavi during Barcelona’s preseason tour in the United States.

“Yes, I see myself staying (at Barcelona). Obviously, I have to prove my abilities during the preseason,” Dest told Sport.

“It depends on me. I feel that I can prove myself, and I will prove myself. My attitude is to stay here and have a great season with Barcelona.”

Dest stated that Xavi Hernandez gives every player a chance during preseason. So, Dest will prove that he is still worthy of playing for Barcelona.

“As the coach said, everyone starts from scratch every season,” he continued.

“I feel that because of what happened to me last season, I’m a little behind, so I will try to give my best version to the team and help the team win.”

Dest revealed that he has already spoken with coach Xavi Hernandez, but he does not want to disclose the details of their conversation.

“I don’t want to give too much information about what I talked about with the coach, but in short, he told me: ‘Okay, I will give you a chance to prove your abilities,’” he revealed.

“He also told me: ‘I think you have the skills, but it depends on you. You have to show me.’ And I fully agree. I have some good skills for the team, but I have to show them and be consistent,” he said”
