Digimagaz.com  –  Genoa celebrated a triumphant first home win of the season with a remarkable 4-1 scoreline against AS Roma. Mateo Retegui was again on target, alongside Albert Guðmundsson, Morten Thorsby, and Junior Messias.

Roma’s only response came from Bryan Cristante, a shallow consolation given the team’s faltering start to the league. With just one victory in six matches, Jose Mourinho’s side languishes in 16th place, holding a mere five points. In contrast, the win elevates Genoa to seven points, giving them a slight edge in the early league standings.

It’s been a rollercoaster for Roma, who recently thumped Empoli 7-0, only to later settle for a draw against Torino. However, the clash against Genoa was far from their favor. The hosts shot ahead just five minutes into the game with Guðmundsson’s sharp strike. Roma found a momentary reprieve when Cristante equalized in the 22nd minute, but it was short-lived. A beautifully crafted goal saw Retegui finding the net after a Guðmundsson assist, aided by Thorsby’s clever backheel, right on the stroke of halftime. This marked Retegui’s fifth goal since his move to Italian soccer, highlighting his seamless transition to Genoa from Argentina.

Roma’s Romelu Lukaku thought he had brought his side level once more, netting what would have been his fourth goal since his transfer from Chelsea. However, the effort was disallowed for offside. Any hopes of a Roma comeback were squashed by Thorsby’s 74th-minute header, followed by Messias’ goal nine minutes before the final whistle.

A poignant moment followed the match as Mourinho, accompanied by his entire Roma squad, approached the traveling supporters in a show of unity and acknowledgment.

In other news from Italy, former Ukrainian international soccer player, Andriy Shevchenko, showcased his skills on a different turf. He participated in an all-star golf match at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Guidonia Montecelio, Italy. The event was a prelude to the Ryder Cup, set to commence on September 29.

For Roma, the journey ahead remains uncertain. Having displayed moments of brilliance, consistency will be key if they aim to climb the league standings. For now, it’s back to the drawing board for Mourinho and his men.
