Digimagaz.com –  In a surprising turn of events, Daniel Ricciardo is set to make his Formula 1 comeback at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix later this month. The Australian driver will replace rookie Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri for the remainder of the season, as announced by the team on Tuesday. De Vries, who has failed to secure any points this year, achieved his highest finish of P12 at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Having impressed at Monza in the previous season while standing in for Alex Albon at Williams, de Vries struggled to replicate that success in his first full-time role. Meanwhile, Ricciardo, a beloved figure among American fans due to his charismatic personality and affinity for American culture, found himself without a seat at the start of the 2023 season after McLaren bought out his contract last year.

Following his departure from McLaren, Ricciardo joined Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver before ultimately joining AlphaTauri, which serves as Red Bull’s feeder team. In preparation for his return, the eight-time race winner took part in a tire test at Silverstone, where he drove an RB19 ahead of the official announcement of his move. Ricciardo previously spent seven years with the Red Bull F1 family from 2012 to 2018, beginning with Toro Rosso (now known as AlphaTauri) and later replacing Mark Webber at Red Bull Racing in 2014. Notably, he secured his second F1 victory at the Hungaroring that same year.

“I am stoked to be back on track with the Red Bull family!” expressed a thrilled Ricciardo in an official statement. AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost also expressed his delight, stating, “I’m very pleased to welcome Daniel back into the team. There’s no doubt about his driving skills, and he already knows many of us, so his integration will be easy and straightforward. The team will also benefit greatly from his wealth of experience.”

AlphaTauri has faced significant challenges in the first half of the season, with Yuki Tsunoda only managing to secure two points thus far. In the recently concluded British Grand Prix, both Tsunoda and de Vries finished in 16th and 17th positions, respectively.

In other news, Ricciardo was scheduled to participate in an exhibition event alongside former teammate Sebastian Vettel for Red Bull Racing at the renowned Nürburgring circuit’s Nordschleife section on September 9. The exhibition falls between the F1 races in Italy and Singapore and is expected to be a thrilling showcase of driving prowess.
