Newly surfaced CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S27 Ultra reportedly show a device that keeps much of the familiar Ultra formula while introducing a substantially different rear camera layout.
The renders, attributed to OnLeaks, provide an early look at Samsung’s possible design direction for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. While the overall shape remains close to the current-generation model, the camera system appears to be the biggest visual change.
If the leaked design is accurate, Samsung could be moving away from its familiar vertically separated camera arrangement and adopting a raised camera platform across the upper portion of the rear panel.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Get a Completely New Camera Layout
The most noticeable change in the leaked Galaxy S27 Ultra design is the rear camera housing.
Instead of placing individual camera lenses along the left side of the phone, Samsung is reportedly considering a camera plateau that groups the sensors into a more unified structure. The approach gives the rear of the phone a different appearance while potentially creating additional internal space around the camera hardware.
The change could also be important beyond aesthetics. A larger camera platform may give Samsung more flexibility when positioning larger sensors and other components. The sensor is reportedly around 1/1.3 inch, suggesting that the main camera could remain broadly comparable in sensor size to the current Ultra generation rather than receiving an enormous hardware upgrade.
For the ultrawide camera, Samsung is reportedly considering Sony’s 50MP IMX855 sensor.
The biggest question will be the telephoto hardware itself. Despite the larger camera platform, the reported design suggests the telephoto sensor may still be relatively compact. That could limit how dramatically Samsung improves long-range photography through hardware alone.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Dimensions Are Expected to Stay Familiar
Despite the camera redesign, Samsung does not appear to be planning a radical change to the phone’s overall dimensions.

One potential benefit of a broader camera platform would be reducing some of the unevenness created by individual protruding lenses, although the leaked design does not necessarily eliminate the familiar camera-related wobble.
The S Pen Is Reportedly Staying
Samsung’s Ultra lineup has increasingly become the company’s home for the built-in S Pen, and that does not appear to be changing with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The leaked renders reportedly show the S Pen silo along the bottom edge of the phone.
That will be reassuring for users who consider the stylus one of the defining features of Samsung’s largest flagship. Concerns about Samsung eventually removing the S Pen increased after the company reduced some of the accessory’s functionality in previous generations.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra, however, is reportedly continuing to integrate the stylus directly into the phone.

Battery technology may be another major change under the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s familiar exterior.
Samsung is reportedly expected to expand the use of silicon-carbon battery technology to its Galaxy S-series flagship phones after introducing the technology in its foldable lineup.
The reported capacity is around 5,700mAh, which would represent a meaningful increase over the current generation.
A silicon-carbon design could allow Samsung to increase energy density without making the battery physically much larger. That could be particularly useful for the Ultra model, where the company has to balance battery capacity with a relatively slim chassis.

When Could Samsung Announce the Galaxy S27 Ultra?
Samsung’s Galaxy S-series launch schedule has shifted over the years, making the exact timing difficult to predict this far ahead.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is currently expected to arrive in February 2027, potentially shortly before Mobile World Congress.
A possible announcement window could fall during the week of February 22, 2027, although Samsung has not confirmed a launch date.
The timing remains speculative, and Samsung could ultimately choose a different schedule.
What the Galaxy S27 Ultra Leak Really Tells Us
